THE NFL IS GAY...AGAIN...KIND OF...

So...the NFL has kicked off this Pride Month with a bang. Not the NHL, not the NBA, not the MLB, but the most conservative athletic body in the United States has decided to represent Pride Month in a peculiar way. But, the NFL hasn't officially posted anything celebrating Pride Month. However,  they have secretly endorsed something bigger. 

On June 1st, the Chicago bears, along with 24 other NFL teams launched their Pride Month celebration photo on social media, angering all of the trolling homophobes. Many companies have recanted their LGBTQ support immediately after Trump's notorious 2nd term inauguration. However, this year it seems that some organizations are finding ways around his bigoted policies. Or maybe something deeper is taking place.

On June 3rd, EA Sports announced their upcoming Madden title, with Caleb Williams and his beautiful nails taking center stage. Not only is this the first time that a Bears player has been on the cover of Madden, but it is also the first time that a man with nails has graced the cover so boldly. It's almost like this was all a well planned marketing scheme. Caleb Williams has been heavily criticized for his nails in the past, and people have even gone as far as to question his sexuality for sticking with the fashion choice. But beyond bigotry, this is the NFL's only connection to celebrating Pride Month.

As much as we all want to celebrate these football teams for posting their pride support photos, this all seems like a marketign scheme to capitalize off of the internet's biggest currency, hate. The Pride Campaign in totality,  centers none of the queer athletes that currently exist in the NFL and it doesn't even center queer issues like social media censorship, the cutting of funding, or the eradication of queer and trans rights. It's all a ploy to sell a stupid fucking video game. And the worst part of all, they are using the hate that LGBTQ people face every day on the internet to fuel attention and dollars. 

Happy Pride Month to the NFL...I guess.
